Welcome! Presenting a large, vintage, mid 20th century modern Impressionist oil or acrylic on board landscape painting featuring a California mission image complete with a well, bell tower and a nun in a black habit and white head covering walking past the exterior gallery. The painting itself measures 40 inches wide and 30 inches high, set in an avocado green and gilt wood frame with white wood inner channel surrounding the painting. The frame is 44 inches wide by 34 inches long.
The image has been painted in a mid-20th century modern impressionist style, in shades of green, yellow, orange, golden yellow, and earth tones, contrasting with the black and white of the nun's figure, the well and the building, which is topped by the suggestion of earthen red roof tiles and the bell tower with a cross. The foliage of the trees has been painted with a combination sponge and pointillistic style. The sky looks hot and bright. The painting is signed on the lower left with a signature that looks like "Raymond", or perhaps "Ray" with a different last name. It is somewhat difficult to read..
The painting has some minor spots and streaks and both the painting and frame could benefit from a cleaning. There is what looks like minor wear to the paint on the lower right. There are dings and wear to the frame. with a little splintered area to the lower right back side corner. The painting is held into the frame by older metal U brads and there is old picture wire attached to a couple of screws for hanging. Overall good condition, a strong mid 20th century impressionistic rendition of a traditional California landscape image..
